It’s What’s For Dinner…

We recently bought some ground beef at BJ’s.  Since my husband is not a lover of beef, we rarely buy it and as a result have only used it to make tacos!  There’s got to be a more sophisticated option!  Just a quick search on Pinterest and I came across this delicious recipe for sweet and spicy Korean Beef.  I’ve adapted the recipe slightly from Six Sisters’ Stuff

Korean Ground Beef with Bulgur Wheat and Steamed Broccoli.

You’ll need:

1lb lean ground beef

3 cloves garlic, jarred minced (guestimate if you love garlic, like we do!)

1 tbsp. sesame oil

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup soy sauce

1/4 tsp. ground ginger (powder)

3/4 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes (we enjoy spice!)

Bulgur Wheat, cooked

Steamed Broccoli (freezer aisle steam bags work great!)

Directions:

  1. In a large skillet, heat the sesame oil and minced garlic over medium heat for a few minutes.
  2. Add the ground beef and cook until browned.
  3. Drain the fat and add the brown sugar, soy sauce, ginger powder and red pepper flakes.
  4. Simmer to blend all the flavors.

Bulgur Wheat: Can be found in any natural ingredient/gluten-free area of the food store.

I used Bob’s Red Mill Bulgur, Light Whole Grain. Follow the directions on the back of the package for basic bulgur.  I cut the recipe in half, which is enough for two people with leftovers.

Steamed Broccoli: I used the frozen steamed bag from the freezer aisle at the food store, however if you have fresh, by all means!

Did you try this recipe? If so, did you change anything? Would love to hear your thoughts!
